Wellness Week at The Studio

There are many elements to wellbeing. From healthy eating, to physical fitness and mental welfare, there’s lots we can be doing to actively improve our overall sense of wellness.

On Monday 23rd – Friday 27th April, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio took part in wellness week, featuring a wide range of activities throughout each day.
Each morning began with mindfulness meditation led by our year 12 students, whilst healthy breakfast and snack options were served in the refectory before classes started.

Break-time activities included a student squat challenge for each year group, and a noteworthy staff and student plank challenge – top of the leader board being our very own Dr Mitchell holding an impressive 5 minute plank!

Later in the week saw the introduction of our staff and Students Health MOT hosted by members of our sixth form health care team during lunchtime. The team offered advice, checks ups and simple blood pressure drop-ins to get people of all ages talking about their overall health and wellbeing.

Afternoon break also offered up a spot of mindfulness colouring. Although relaxed and simple, it was a perfect and effective way for students to de-stress with the aid of some creative colouring.

Star of the week was our CUC mascot – Marley the bichon poodle! Popping in each week, he works wonders at cheering up students and staff alike.

Finally, students enjoyed a visit from The Gym Group Ltd, who took to the sports hall to offer fitness sessions and challenges based around the areas of balance and strength. To finish off the week, massage sessions were made available to staff courtesy of our visiting masseuse Annie.

So when the week was out, what did we learn?

Ultimately, making well-being a priority allows us to instil a culture of wellness in schools, and when this happens, teachers and students alike start to thrive as a result. We were delighted to have taken part in Wellness Week, and look forward to our next instalment!
