Studio Wireless

This week saw the launch of the first ever Studio Wireless, an event aimed at exploring the different elements of the fast-moving digital and technological world. We invited experts from the industry, both local and national, in to explore the topic of Virtual Reality and discuss how it is shaping the world around us.

Students gathered in the cinema where they were treated to 15 minute lightning talks from each of the industry experts. Kicking off proceedings was Owen Cottrell, Director at Mocha TV. Owen gave students a quick overview of 360 VR filming and went on to discuss some of the exciting VR footage Mocha TV had recently captured. Following on from Owen was Mark Lee, Operations Director at Uniform. Mark shared some of the amazing VR work Uniform had produced for their clients. Clemens Wangerin, a Governor here at The Studio, was next to address our students. Clemens discussed some of the work he is doing with vTime and went on to explore the idea of social VR. The final speaker was Michael Van De Waal, a VR expert from Sony PlayStation. Michael shared information on some of the exciting projects he is currently working on with Sony PlayStation.

Following on from the lightning talks, the panel of speakers gathered for a quick question and answer session. Students were given the opportunity to ask any burning questions and were able to find out more about the VR industry.

The event finished up in the Mac suite, where students were given the opportunity to test out some of the VR equipment Sony PlayStation and Uniform had kindly brought with them.

Ashley, a Year 12 student, gave us his thoughts on the event – “Today has been brilliant! It was great to have the opportunity to interact with industry experts from the world of VR!”

The first Studio Wireless was a huge success! Students gained an excellent insight into the world of virtual reality. A big thank you to all our guest speakers for coming in!
