We’re thrilled to have received another ‘good’ grading from Ofsted in our latest assessment; at the Studio we think the behaviour, safety and wellbeing of our students is outstanding, and Ofsted agrees.
Our latest grade is a tribute to the dedication and vision of a talented team of teachers and support staff, and the hard work they put in every day. Ofsted visited at the beginning of December, and has just announced a string of conclusions, including:
• Studio School is an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated
• The Studio has strong links with industry
• It’s more like a family than a school
• Studio staff feel valued and are proud to work at the Studio
• Pupils feel safe and are happy at the Studio
• Students in sixth form show a professional attitude to their work
Head teacher Jill Davies says: ‘it’s an absolutely honest and accurate portrait of the school, and the environment we’ve created for our students to shine. We’re happy that we’re standing out for the right things, including wellbeing and behaviour, inclusivity and diversity, our links with industry and the professional, aspirational ethos of both our students and our staff. For our students to describe us as “more like a family than a school” – to such an extent that the inspectors noted it – is a tribute to both the students, and a hard-working team of staff.
‘Seeing the camaraderie of our team here, and the effect on morale was an absolute pleasure. The students value their work, and appreciate being somewhere that’s really different. They’re very proud of being part of this family, but we’re not resting on our laurels – we continue to rise to the challenge and strive for “outstanding” status.’
The parent of a recent Studio graduate, who heads for university this year, said:
‘Changing schools at the start of Year 10 was not a decision that we took lightly – especially as our son’s previous school was top of the league tables at the time for Sefton. However, it is without doubt, the best decision we have ever made (and continues to be so for our younger son, too). Our son transformed almost overnight from a shy, worried, anxious individual who struggled academically due to his dyslexia, in to a happy, extremely self confident young man. He has just finished his A levels and is off to his first choice university.
‘His sixth form teachers have been inspirational. They have helped him to be the best he can be academically and personally. He has learned resilience and perseverance; self belief and confidence; dedication to be the best you can be; a never-give-up attitude passion and pride in your work – the list is endless. These qualities go much further than academically. They have extended into his personal attributes and we are so proud of the young man he has become.’
And the parent of a Year 10 student added:
‘After six weeks with you, my daughter has changed from a stressed out, tearful girl, to a confident, happy young lady. She’s loving every day in school now, she’s made friends and is even enjoying the lessons she used to despise. I cannot believe the difference in her in such a short space of time. Thank you so much for taking a risk and taking her on. You’ve made a young girl and her mum very happy.’
