What is BTEC Children’s Play, Learning and Development

This course is suited to anyone interested in working with young children and children with additional needs in a range of settings. Settings such as nursery, pre-school or primary school. A career within the Early Years sector is challenging but also hugely rewarding. It allows you to make a difference in the lives of children, helping them to reach their full potential. If you have an approachable, trustworthy, enthusiastic and compassionate nature, then the Children’s Play, Learning & Development BTEC may be for you!

Why study this course?

We provide a practical, real-world approach to learning for those who want to work with children from birth to seven years. The course has a strong practical emphasis, including extensive work experience to build up your knowledge and skills.

What can you expect from this course?

Students will undertake practical training in various childcare establishments through work placement hours, and study core units in childcare on site at Kingston College. We will help arrange for you to complete your DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, formally known as the CRB check, and this will be explained to you at enrolment.

The BTEC First Certificate allows for a pass mark differentiation. This means that you can pass the certificate at either pass, merit or distinction level which will then determine your overall qualification grade with either a level 1 or level 2 pass mark.

How is it assessed?

Coursework, 7 pieces, 1 exam

What can I do after completing this qualification?

BTEC Firsts motivate learners and opens doors to progression into further study and responsibility within the workplace. On completion, this course will act as a stepping stone towards a level 3 Early Years qualification or enrolment onto an apprenticeship course or employment in the industry.
